Done up in watercolour, this piece depicts the recently launched Gallardo on paper. Painted on high quality 400gsm paper by an artist who has been painting cars since about eight years now perfection is what the words should be. There will only be this one piece of this painting as we absolutely do not intent to have prints of the same up for sale. The painting will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Italy's state police have a sleek new addition -- a Lamborghini Gallardo with a top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph). The car, which has a list price of $165,000 (€145,180), comes fully equipped -- flashing blue light and siren included. The Lamborghini will be used on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway in southern Italy for emergencies and to transport organs for transplant. Lamborghini, which is owned by Volkswagen and based near Bologna in northern Italy, donated the car.

Lamborghini absolutely obliterated its own production record in 2003 by building 1305 cars, or about 300 more than it expected to. This was due entirely to the launch of the new Gallardo model, which would have been responsible for a new record even if Lamborghini had built nothing else. 890 were made, compared with the company's busiest year back in 1991 when it sent a total of 672 units out of the factory. The Gallardo practically amounts to a mass-production Lamborghini. The other car in the range, the Murcielago, accouted for a much more modest 415 units. That figure is expected to drop to around 400 in 2003, even with the introduction of the open-topped Murcielago Barchetta, which will be displayed at the Geneva Show in March and will probably account for around half the model's sales from then on. A roadster version of the Gallardo should be on sale by early 2006. Before the end of the decade Lamborghini hopes to have annual production running at an unprecedented 3000 units, an increase over the 1991 figure which can't be unconnected with the company having been brought into the Volkswagen Group.

The 1970 Urraco represented a bright future for Lamborghini. As the company’s first move downmarket, the car was designed to compete with the Porsche 911 and Ferrari Dino in the small-GT field. During tests of a Urraco P250 in February 1971, Road& Trackobserved that the engine"was designed for use either with a rear-drive layout or a front-engine, front-drive arrangement, which makes us wonder if Lamborghini is planning a sedan."Indeed, Ferruccio Lamborghini hoped profits from the Urraco would fund spinoffs using variations of the same mechanicals, including a mass-production, front-engined sedan. The greater sales volume generated by the Urraco would also allow Lamborghini’s automotive division to finally turn a profit, rather than being kept afloat by the company’s tractor sales.

WHEN THE STUNNING COUNTACH LP500 prototype debuted at Geneva in 1971, the automotive media doubted it would see production. The Lamborghini’s angular shape, with its steeply raked windshield and scissor doors, was outrageously different from supercars that had come before. Turns out this Miura successor, a car even more focused on providing the ultimate in street performance, would redefine the genre with a design that has proved to be timeless. More about it here.

The Murciélago R-GT, developed jointly with renowned race engineering company Reiter Engineering in Germany, and parent company Audi’s sports division Audi Sport, will offer Lamborghini clients a highly competitive car with which to participate in global professional motorsport. Built to the specification of FIA and ACO regulations, the R-GT will be equipped with a Lamborghini air restricted 6 litre V12 engine, developing a highly competitive power output. The drive train, converted from the Murciélago permanent 4WD to RWD, as per the FIA/ACO regulations, will sport a sequential gearbox. The total weight will be contained within the relevant class specification of 1100 kg.

For 40 years, Italy's Lamborghini has thrilled elite buyers with its sleek and speedy sports cars. Now, after losing money for most of its history, the company is on track to earn a profit, the company's CEO says. The company expects a 2003 turnover of 170 million euros ($192 million) but is still cautious about ramping up output too much, lest the cars lose their cachet.

Now, following a successful two-day test in Hockenheim, Germany, the VICI Racing Lamborghini is set to make its long awaited debut in the American LeMans Series. The car performed flawlessly and showed great promise bringing a smile to the face of everyone present. F1 pilot Gaston Mazzacane turned out some very fast laps during his first time behind the wheel of the Lamborghini. "It’s a very fast car," Gaston said. "A sturdy, reliable, and fun to drive automobile. It accepts set up changes easily and improves its performance steadily." Gaston goes on to say “ I feel very comfortable driving it and I am happy to be a part of the Lamborghini project with VICI Racing."

Lamborghini ace Paul Stokell served notice that he will be the driver in this weekend's fifth round of Donut King Australian Nations Cup Championship where he dominated official practise at Oran Park near Sidney. Stokell"s best time of 1min 09.15 secs was a substantial 0.7 secs faster than that of rival John Bowe, who leads the Meguiar's Drivers Championship standings in his Ferrari 360GT.

Then the Diablo. And now, the Murcielago. Though clearly a spiritual descendant of the first two, the Murcielago comes from a new Lamborghini, owned by Volkswagen, overseen by Audi, and intent on building high-quality-yet-outrageous machinery that can, and will, be driven instead of just fawned over.

The Gallardo—say ga-yar-doh—seems like a miniature Murciélago, but the aluminum V-10–powered sports car is new from the ground up. Insiders swear the mid-engined two-seat coupe is as fast as its big brother V-12 up to 150 mph. For 15 years, since the Lamborghini factory at Sant’Agata last threatened the rule of Ferrari’s V-8 (then the 308/328) with the Jalpa, various owners, including Chrysler, have dangled the promise of a baby Lambo in front of the motoring world. Now, finally, under Audi management, Lamborghini can deliver on that tantalizing prospect.

Lamborghini will decide whether to add a third model by year end. The Italian super-luxury sports car maker, purchased by Audi in 1998, has returned to profitability and is about to open a vintage car restoration center. Lamborghini is not planning to enter car racing, but its V-12 L800 marine engine dominates the Class One Offshore World Championship - the Formula One of boat racing - winning its seventh world title in eight years in 2002.

Crack Nations Cup outfit Team Lamborghini Australia will expand to a three car line-up and contest Group Two of the championship from the third round at Wakefield Park late this month. Tasmanian born Paul Stoken enjoyed a happy homecoming when he steered his Lamborghini Diablo to the top of the timesheets in the official practise for the round two of the Donut King Australia Nations Cup Championships at Symmons Plains near Launceston, on the 25th of this month.

Parents of Manchester (England) can now get their kids a Lamborghini for just 40,000 pounds or about 60,000 Euros. Ofcourse it won't be the real thing but a fine replica never-the-less. These cars are built of fibreglass, are petrol driven and can do about 30 mph.

Frank Sinatra’s 1970 Lamborghini Miura P400S, chassis No. 4407, will be displayed along with 40 other motorcars at Rockefeller Plaza before being auctioned at Christie’s Collectors’ Car Auction June 5 in New York.
